For the first time since 1989, Harrison Ford dons the familiar costume on Thursday, June 21, 2007, as the upcoming Indiana Jones adventure begins production under the direction of Steven Spielberg.
Make fun of Ford's age all you want: This picture of him "in character" makes me giddy.
Via Daring Fireball.
I happen to be one of few people I know who really likes The Last Crusade -- despite some glaring issues with the Marcus Brody character.
I actually enjoyed The Last Crusade the most! I'm definitely excited at the prospects of a new movie!
I liked The Last Crusade, too. Much better than Temple of Doom (simply because the girlfriend in that one made my skin crawl).
Wild horses couldn't stop me from going to see this flick.
You must not know the right people. How can you not like The Last Crusade?
Yeah seriously, The Last Crusade was great. I also found the Temple of Doom to be inferior to both other Indiana Jones movies.
Raiders was my top Jones movie. Then Crusade and then my least favorite Temple of Doom.
Damn it, Crusade is one of my two favorite movies EVER. I can't ever quite decide between that and The Shawshank Redemption for #1.
Thanks for seeding this, Brian - I have been wondering when this would happen as the rumors have been around for years now.
This is one of the few sequels that I'm REALLY looking forward to, I hope they still have the magic! :P
LOVE IT. I so enjoy Indiana Jones. I'm pleased that Ford is doing this. I'm sure I will watch this installment several times, just as I've watched the others. Yippie!
My ONLY concern is that Ford seems to "mumble" and monotone a lot of his roles these days -- I'm hoping that he gets a bit of his edge and wit back for the role.
It's good to see him actually, looking his age. Some actors these days (Ahem, Nicolas Cage) are trying too, even desperately hard to look younger in action roles.
Other than that, I hope they do a decent job with this.
What perhaps intrigues me most on this are the rumors that this story may revolve around Atlantis. I always thought "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis" would make a good movie (even though I doubt it'd be anything like the old game).
I just hope his love interest isn't going to be 20. LMAO
lol
I'm a big fan of the character Indy. I first played a game on the Indy series "Indiana Jones and the fate of Atlantis" and I became fond of the archaeologist cum action hero character. Of the three movies, the 'Raiders of the lost ark' was the best in my view, featuring in the top 20 movies ever on IMDB. I agree that the character demands Ford to get his wits back. But, I would disagree on whether someone else could have done the role. He just fits so well in that character. I'm sure he can do a good job again as the man with the hat
Takes place in the 1950s? So we don't get anymore Nazis? They make such great villains.
They really do. Its great to watch Indy beating all their traps. But, then, its always great to watch Indy in action, Nazis or no Nazis.
Damn fine cast around him too - Cate Blanchett, John Hurt, Ray Winstone and Jim Broadbent. I wonder who gets to be the villain. I'm rooting for Cate, but she'll probably be stuck in the damsel role. Sigh.
OMG. Notes on a Scandal. Hubba hubba.
he is very popular character
Wow! He almost looks the same as he did in the original trilogy.
I honestly thought he would look pudgy and saggy like in some of his more recent movies.
Looking forward to seeing this with my kids.
Why aren't there more good series/characters like this one? I really can't wait until this movie is out!
I am pleasantly surprised by his appearance. I was worried he would just look old...
He looks great! Should be a great addition to the franchise...
Jesus.
"Behold -- the power of the indiana-jones tag!"
I wouldn't have expected this to take off quite like it did, but I'm glad it found an audience.
Great discussion!
(Btw -- I can only hope that Adam has inadvertently started a rash of "behold -- the power of the blank tag!" in-jokes.)
My favorite Indy movies:
1-Raiders
2-Crusade
3-Doom
I remember walking out of the theatre after crusade and thinking "That's what I want to be, an archaeologist"
And you know what? 20 years later, sure enough, I am not an archeologist. lost interest after about a week.
I remember walking out of the theatre after crusade and thinking "That's what I want to be, an archaeologist"
I felt the same way after 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' and I did become an archaeologist. My sister-in-law once asked me if archaeologists become archaeologists because of Indiana Jones.
"Nope," I replied, in complete honesty. "We become archaeologists because of his hat."
"Nope," I replied, in complete honesty. "We become archaeologists because of his hat."
I knew it! Now, to prove you're really an archaeologist, Thinking Rocks, we need to see you post a picture of (or change your avatar to a picture of) yourself in your very own Indiana Jones hat.
That is great!
I think we ALL wanted to be Indy after the first one.
Is your life as a real archeologist as exciting as his?

My sister and I determined last weekend that in order to be able to wear a fedora, you have to have, at some time in your life, run down the length of a cave away from a boulder several times your size.
So I guess my question is, how many fedoras do you have?
We'll have to ask Darrell Rohl...he's the real deal!
Bah, he doesn't have a fedora in his avatar picture. I remain unconvinced.
I only own one fedora, of course. The trick is to never - ever - lose it.
I can not believe he looks that good. Giddy is the perfect word to describe my emotions when I first saw the photo. I don't know if I will be able to wait another 11 months for this thing to come out, it is going to drive me absolutely nuts.
I kind of actually liked Temple of Doom. The tone maybe much different than the other two but I kind of liked it. Each movie had something different to offer in terms of its tone, characters, and plot line. Raiders was the most serious, whereas Temple was a Dark Gunga Din type movie, and Crusades was more comedic and lighthearted. Great article!!!
I'm excited. This reminds me I need to watch the dvd versions of the movies. Do they have commentary tracks and good extras?
My only concern is the one mentioned earlier about how his acting has been a bit understated lately as he seems to mumble lines. But I attribute that more to some bad movie choices than his abiliities
I have a feeling that once he staples on the old fedora again he'll remember the character ;)
Staples? Yeah I think he will.
Staples? Yeah I think he will.
Have you not heard that story? While filming and riding a horse his hat kept flying off and they had to cut the take, so after enough times he just stapled it to his head. He's hardcore like that.
Stapled hurt, I leaned the hard way, so when he grabbed the staple gun and did that my eyes bugged out. Staples into the head man, that's nuts! But it worked.
That's awesome. I didn't know that!
That gives me even more respect for him in this role than I already had.
Umm... I don't think he actually stapled the hat to his head. I'm pretty sure it was a joke.
Harrison is going to have a good year.
Just learned 25th anniversaey of BladeRunner is coming to blu ray this october. Nice!
